Collins Creek Landing vs. Mt. Gilead: Which Murrells Inlet Neighborhood Fits You?
Two neighborhoods, one hometown, and two very different ways to enjoy Murrells Inlet. I'm Merrill Bryan, a lifelong Murrells Inlet local and Realtor. If you're comparing Collins Creek Landing and Mt. Gilead, here's what I'd want you to know before you fall in love with a house.

The Short Version
Collins Creek Landing may appeal to buyers who want a gated community, custom homes, shared recreational amenities and a neighborhood boat landing. Mt. Gilead may appeal to buyers who prefer an established, less uniform neighborhood, mature landscaping and the possibility of individual creekfront properties with private docks. Neither is automatically the better choice: it depends on how you want to live.

What I Love About Collins Creek Landing
Collins Creek Landing offers a sense of neighborhood structure, with gated entry, custom homes, a clubhouse, pool, recreation areas and community boating facilities. For buyers who want shared amenities without giving up a residential, wooded setting, it's worth exploring. Keep in mind that rules for boat storage, docks and amenities need to be confirmed with the association.

What I Love About Mt. Gilead
Mt. Gilead has its own personality. The mix of homes, mature trees and creek-oriented properties gives it a less uniform feel. Some properties have water frontage or docks, but not every lot does, and water access, permitting and navigability are property-specific. It's a neighborhood where I would spend extra time understanding the individual home and lot.

How to Choose Between Them
If boating is your priority
Start by deciding whether you want access to a community landing, space to store a boat, or your own private dock. These are three different needs. Ask about ramp rules, tidal conditions, water depth, boat size and any required permits. My Murrells Inlet boating neighborhoods guide explains more.
If you want fewer restrictions
Look closely at the current HOA documents and any recorded deed restrictions. The absence of a traditional HOA does not mean there are no rules or public regulations affecting a property.
If you want a particular home style
Tour both areas. Photos and listing descriptions only tell part of the story; floor plans, lot settings, renovation quality and street feel can vary dramatically.
If you're comparing value
Don't compare neighborhood-wide averages without accounting for waterfront location, square footage, age, condition and whether a listing is a home or vacant lot. A property-specific comparative market analysis will be much more useful than a single headline number.

Merrill's Local Take
If a friend asked me which neighborhood to choose, I wouldn't start with price. I'd ask how they spend their weekends. Are they picturing a community pool and neighborhood boat ramp, or a more individual home setting with the possibility of a private dock? That conversation tells me more than a list of must-have features.
I grew up in Murrells Inlet and love helping people discover which part of this area actually fits them. I'm not going to rush you, oversell you, or tell you two neighborhoods are interchangeable when they're not.
