Surfside Beach has a charm all its own. Between its walkable beach streets, local restaurants, fishing pier and mix of full-time residences and vacation properties, it is easy to see why people are drawn to this stretch of the South Strand. I'm Merrill Bryan, a Murrells Inlet native and local Realtor, and I love helping people compare the coastal communities that each offer something a little different.
Whether you want a primary residence, a low-maintenance condo or a beach getaway, here are the details I would want you to consider before buying in Surfside Beach.
Surfside Beach sits south of Myrtle Beach and north of Garden City Beach. The town's beachfront streets, public accesses and Surfside Beach Fishing Pier make it a recognizable part of the coast. You can enjoy the beach and still have nearby grocery stores, shopping, dining and everyday services.
The Town of Surfside Beach lists 36 public beach access points. Actual parking options, accessibility features and access routes vary, so I recommend checking the specific block when comparing homes.

Beachfront homes and properties a few blocks from the ocean offer different combinations of views, access, maintenance and price. For walk-to-beach homes, I suggest checking the actual walking route, public access point and parking rather than relying on a listing description alone.
For buyers who prefer less exterior maintenance, condos and townhomes may be worth exploring. Review the association budget, reserve funds, assessments, insurance responsibilities, pet rules and any rental restrictions before making a decision.
Beyond the immediate oceanfront, the greater Surfside Beach area includes established neighborhoods and planned communities. Some properties marketed with a Surfside Beach address are outside the town limits. That distinction can affect applicable rules and services, so we will verify the exact property location.
Golf carts are part of the coastal lifestyle for many residents, but the rules matter. The Town of Surfside Beach allows qualifying golf carts on certain roads and permits nighttime use only when permanently equipped with working headlights and taillights. State requirements, registration, insurance, driver licensing, permitted roads and parking rules also apply. Golf carts are not permitted on the beach. Check the Town's golf-cart guidance and confirm the rules for the property and route you intend to use.
Some Surfside Beach properties are used as vacation rentals, but not every home can be rented short-term. Zoning, town regulations, business licensing and HOA or condo rules may limit what is permitted. Before you buy based on rental projections, let's verify eligibility and account for management, cleaning, repairs, insurance, taxes and potential association assessments.

Yes. Surfside Beach is its own incorporated town, just south of Myrtle Beach. Properties in the broader Surfside Beach postal or MLS area may be outside the town limits, so verify the address and jurisdiction.
Golf carts can be used on qualifying public roads when operated in compliance with state and town rules, but not on the sand. Confirm the specific route, parking and equipment requirements before relying on golf-cart access.
Yes. You can find condos and townhomes in the greater Surfside Beach area, although availability changes. The live listings below are a good starting point.
Rental eligibility depends on the property's zoning, location and any applicable association restrictions. Do not assume that a property is eligible just because nearby homes are advertised as vacation rentals.
Surfside Beach is directly north of Garden City Beach and a short drive from Murrells Inlet. Travel times depend on your exact starting point, route and seasonal traffic.
That depends on your priorities: proximity to the beach, budget, home style, association rules, rental goals or year-round convenience. I can help you compare specific streets and communities rather than giving you a one-size-fits-all answer.
I'm Merrill Bryan, and I grew up right here on the South Strand. My approach is straightforward and personal: understand what matters to you, share local knowledge, and help you make a confident real estate decision. Whether you are buying or selling, I'd love to help.
